Despite knowing about marine species’ importance for a long time, human activity has been causing massive extinctions. One of the biggest causes of sea animal extinction is pollution.
Everyone loves to spend time at the beach, sunbathing, swimming in the sea, playing sports, but not so many people stop to think about the impact that we cause to these beautiful natural places.
There are infinity of activities that people can find to enjoy the sea as much as possible, but it would be amazing if all of them could also take care and try to improve the situation of the surrounded environment.
According to this last week we had the pleasure to host a really interesting meeting at Poseidon Diving Station, directed by Robert Scammell PADI Regional Training Consultant, about “Green Fins” program.
The Green Fins initiative aims to protect and conserve coral reefs by establishing and implementing environmentally friendly guidelines to promote a sustainable diving and snorkelling tourism industry. Green Fins has been implemented in nine countries to date. These countries have been specifically selected as part of United Nation Environment’s (UNEP) mission to increase public awareness and improve management practices that will benefit the conservation of coral reefs and reduce unsustainable tourism practices. If you are interested in this program you can visit the website https://www.greenfins.net/ and become a Green Fins dive guide doing the e-course.
